The head restraint is fastened to two bars (1,2) moving in sleeves anchored in the seat. The sleeves are released by pulling the head restraint forward, to permit its movement. An adjusting device (4) integrated in the seat causes automatic movement of the heat restraint in axial direction of the bars and relative to the seat. The head restraint moves along a guide element (5) anchored in the seat. Each element has an associated spring element (11) for automatic movement of the restraint.
