Supported, titanized chromium catalysts are prepared by bringing a support material into contact with a protic medium comprising a titanium compound and a chromium compound; optionally removing the solvent; optionally calcining the precatalyst; and optionally activating the precatalyst in an oxygen-containing atmosphere at 400-1100 degrees C.
