Method for monitoring the condition of a starter motor battery (2) in which preferably the terminal voltage and or the current supplied to the battery when it is under load is measured. Optimally the parameters are measured during a start process. The measurement value or values are compared with a corresponding set value in a processor unit (10). If a threshold is exceeded, a warning signal is applied to a display device. The invention also relates to a corresponding device for method implementation.
