A capillary evaporator comprises a substrate (14) having many adjacent guide channels (8) for a cooling medium, open to a vapor space and separated by intermediate bridges (9). Grooves (10) opening to the vapor space run in the bridges and open to the channels. Groove width is less than one-third of the channel width. An Independent claim is also included for a cooling system as above.
