Navigation device (1) has an operating unit (3) and an interface (10) for transfer of target data to central unit (12) for calculation of a route to a target. The navigation device has a memory (9) containing name labels for determining a particular name from inputs using the operating unit. Finally the selected name is transmitted to a central unit. An Independent claim is made for a method for inputting target data for a motor vehicle navigation system.
