Pyrotechnic kit (A) for generating infra-red (IR) radiation contains (a) as oxidant, fluorinated, spherical, carbocyclic cage molecules (I), or polymers containing (I) as monomers, and (b) as fuel (C), a halophilic metal that binds fluorine in an exothermic reaction, or its alloy. An independent claim is also included for a method of making (A) by subliming (I) or its polymers on to (C).
