Process for ion exchange of a phosphate containing glass substrate (1), where the ion source is a salt melt (10) containing silver ions and the salt melt also contains ammonium ions. Independent claims are included for: (1) an optical component, especially a diffractive optical element and/or a lens by the above process; (2) an integrated optical component especially a planar waveguide and/or splitter combiner and/or a planar strengthened and/or optical chip and/or arranged waveguide (AWG), especially a Mach-Zehnder waveguide obtained by the process; (3) A glass material and at least one region (10) which contains at least one first ion composition and at least a region which contains at least a second ion composition obtainable by the process.
