The assembly to dry sludge (2), and similar materials, has an enclosed drying channel (6) for the sludge to be carried through by a conveyor (11) against a counter flow of drying air. The drying channel is fitted with eddy units (25) at eddy zones (28), where air eddies (32) are generated to increase the drying air flow speed at the sludge. Diaphragms (26) narrow the air flow passage in front of each eddy zone. The drying air is heated before entry into the assembly, using solar energy at least partially.
