The circuit arrangement has a generator of pulses reflected from a spark at the fault location produced by an inductance forming a choke at the defect location. A location device is coupled to the cable via an energy isolation filter. A peak current in the choke can be controlled by a synchronizing signal. An Ohmic branch parallel to the choke has a trigger coil or holding element forming a synchronizing signal for the defect location device. The circuit arrangement uses pulses from a generator (1) with a DC source for coupling to the cable whose output pulses are reflected from a spark at the fault location produced by an inductance forming a choke (2) at the defect location. A defect location device is coupled to the cable via an energy isolation filter and a peak current in the choke can be controlled by a synchronizing signal. An Ohmic branch (4) parallel to the choke has a trigger coil (6) or a holding element for forming a synchronizing signal for the defect location device (7) to determine the breakdown time at the defect location.
