The gear mechanism has a gear housing (11) with a differential cage (24) rotatably mounted in the housing, two coaxial lateral shafts (15,16) and wheels (35,36) rotatably mounted in the differential cage and differential wheels (33,34) engaged with the lateral shaft wheels and a locking coupling (32,52) between the first lateral shaft wheel and the first lateral shaft. The first lateral shaft wheel has a larger roller circle radius than the second. An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a motor vehicle with an inventive differential gear.
