The restraint device uses at least one restraint band (2) with a fixing section (8) at one end secured to the airbag (4) and a second end secured to an automobile component (6). The fixing section has an increased cross-section, with a tapering cross-section (12) between the fixing section and the remainder of the restraint band. The latter is formed from a number of individual fibres extending along the longitudinal axis of the restraint band. An Independent claim for an airbag module is also included.
