The security device has a spring-loaded valve element (16) movable in a gas pipe (11) and coupled to a guide rod (8,12,14) which emerges gas-tight from the gas pipe and has an end member (8) whereby pressure on the end member moves the valve element against spring force into the open position. A holding mechanism (2-7) assumes a standby position where it exerts pressure on the end member to hold open the valve element, and a released state where it exerts no pressure on the end member. A holding element (2) fixes the holding mechanism in the standby position. An externally operated tension mechanism (20) moves the holding mechanism from the released to the standby position but does not fix it in this position. The tension mechanism has a damped longitudinally adjustable rod linkage system.
