Rear seat (1) for a vehicle comprises a seat (2) and a back rest (3) which are pivotably mounted in bearings (6, 8) in the region of their ends facing away from their pivoting connection so that the rear seat can be transferred from a first position corresponding to a seat position into a second position in which the seat lies vertically and the back rest horizontally. The seat and the back rest are pivotably mounted on at least one connecting rod (9). The connecting rod in the first position of the rear seat is pivotably mounted in the region of the under side of the seat and the rear side of the back rest.
