At specific locations, the melt is cooled by heat exchange. Where this occurs, solidifications (24) are formed, which project into the melt. These grow together with the shell (10) formed around the strand, on the walls (2, 3) of the continuous casting mold. As the partly-set strand is extracted, these re-melt, at least partially, and reduce the temperature of the melt. An Independent claim is included for corresponding equipment.
