Catalyst components obtained by bringing into contact a bismuth compound and two non-metallic compounds are new. Catalyst components obtained by bringing into contact a bismuth compound of formula (I) and two non-metallic compounds of formula (I) and (III) are new. Bi(L1)r (I); (R1)s-1T1H (II); (R2)t-2T2H2 (III); r = valency of Bi; L1 = H, halogen or hydrocarbon or hydrocarbonoxy residue, being same or different when more than one L1 is present; T1 and T2 = non-metallic Group 15 or 16 elements; s and t = valencies of T1 and T2 respectively; R1 = an electron-withdrawing group or contains such a group, being same or different when more than one R1 is present; and R2 = hydrocarbon residue, being same or different when more than one R2 is present.
