Use of an LED based light source with a dental instrument, whereby the light source generates white light. An independent claim is made for a dental instrument with a channel for the passage of a working fluid together with an LED light source that emits light with an emission maximum in the range of 400 to 515 nm. Typically the light source is based on blue, red and green light emitting LEDs with the light mixed together.
