For the recovery of raw lignocellulose material, from a digester, the water is extracted from the wood chips before they pass into a refiner, and any precipitated condensation is spun out of the process. The wood chips are compressed (23') on leaving the digester (1) and directly under it, as a screw with a rotating cutting head (29) in the flow path (21,24,26) to the refiner (3). Extracted water is taken off (27,28) at the end of the screw unit.
