A silencer box for the exhaust gasses from an IC engine has a number of compartments separated by bulkheads (3). A number of ducts (5) are positioned through the bulkheads and run from the first to the last compartment. The bulkheads also have apertures (4). The ducts are provided with apertures (6) produced by press operations. Outward facing apertures direct the exhaust gasses onto the outer wall of the silencer for cooling while inward facing apertures pick up gasses for transfer to the next compartment.
