A contactless rail (7a, b) position and profile measurement unit fits under a normal train (13) with a laser electro optical (1) rail head (7a) and groove (7b) geometry sensor (1), track gauge and curvature sensor (2) and matrix rail (7) position sensor (3) using a measurement wheel (5) with spur gear (6) and linear drive (12) pressed against the rail inside edge (10) and the running surface (11).
