The reserve tank fuel level has PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) resistor which may be screwed (C) to the floor of the tank. It has a spacer tube (B) holding a protective cap (A) for the PTC resistor and has electrical connections (D) to an evaluation circuit. As the fuel in the tank drains down, the PTC resistor is uncovered and its electrical resistance changes. This is detected by the evaluation circuit which produces an audio or visual alarm signal.
