The effect of a wood burning fireplace are simulated by a fireplace that is powered by gas or electricity. This has an illuminated display based upon artificial logs. Additional realism is provided by sound effects simulating logs burning. The sounds are provided by signals stored in digital memory and played back using a digital controller.
