The motor vehicle lifting platform has two spaced scissor linkages each supporting a platform to receive a load. Each linkage has two arms pivoted together and an actuating cylinder. The lift has an extension compensating monitor to stop the cylinder if the scissors linkages are uneven. The monitor has at least two inductive sensors (26,27), each outer lifting link (19,20) having a sensor to detect a pivoting movement of the link.
