A method for accurate marking of a base layer prior to laying concrete via a slip paver has a spray marker (4) on a height adjusting parallelogram support fitted to one side of a compacting unit (20) which prepares the base layer. The compacting unit is steered by a position control system to accurately prepare the bed for concreting. The control system activates the spray at preset spacing to provide marks into which the guide rods for the slip paver are inserted. The spray marker dispenses marking paint of a selected colour.
