The axle (2) is supported on both sides by a leaf spring unit (4), each supported by a front bearing eye (7), and a rear bearing eye (8) on a moveable spring bracket (11). One of the leaf spring units is stretched when the vehicle is in use, and is hinged to the rear bearing eye via a spring bracket and rear spring block (10) on the chassis frame (1). The spring bracket has top support faces, which engage supporting on lower support faces on the spring block and/or the chassis, when a fracture occurs in a front section (5) of a leaf spring unit. The spring bracket is a cast, welded, bent, pressed, or forged part. The axle is the front axle of a heavy goods vehicle or a bus.
