Method for determining 3D object contours using synchronously obtained images has the following steps: synchronous recording of a scene using a number of cameras; segmentation of the scene images and determination of object contours in the images in the 2D space of the image; calculation of an initial parameterization of the 3D curve of the object contours in the images and; determination of an optimum parameterization of the 3D snake function. The synchronous recording of an image in a stereo method is carried using two cameras.
