The cast metal casing (10) for pumps comprises a scroll chamber (12), formed by a spiral passage (16) invariably changing outwards in cross section, and a curved suction neck (14) opening into the middle of the scroll chamber and with an upstream section (22) extending approximately parallel to the plane of the scroll chamber. The inner surfaces of the suction neck and scroll chamber blend into each other seamlessly.
