The apparatus includes at least two balls on a platform or base, connected by a spring under tension. The middle of the spring is marked. The middle of the spring is set at an absolute marking. A nozzle or other drive system can be used instead of the spring. Instead of the middle of the spring, the direction of movement of the object can be detected by a laser measuring device which measures the distance from the different balls to the object.
