The fire detection system is for a windmill e.g. with a propeller-type rotor (2) connected to a machine housing (1) containing drive gears and an electrical generator. There are two fire detectors (3,4) in the machine housing. The first is sensitive to heat and light throughout the whole 360 degree arc and the second looks toward the rotor and may be sensitive only through a 90 degree arc.
