The awning for an individually standing unit, such as a mobile home (1,2), garden house, holiday house, container or similar comprises a support device comprising two rods (4) for a flexible roof which can be moved outwards and drawn inwards. The rods can slide or roll in guides (3) arranged on two opposing outer walls of the unit (1). The awning comprises a strip (5) of textile, preferably watertight material, which by means of cross rods (8') and rings (6) is guided on the rods (4).
