The paving stone layer (1) comprises several abutting paving stones (2) of concrete material. The four-sided stones in plan have different sizes on their upper side. The layer has a long side (1.1) and a cross side (1.2). The stones have an optionally formed upper side by means of surface profiling and/or by coloring and/or lightness and shading. The rectangular stones are oriented with their longitudinal extents partly in a first axial direction and partly in a second axial direction. The second axial direction is vertical to the first axial direction, defining with it the plane of the paving stone layer.
