A drying system for wood chip fuel has the wet chips dropped onto an inclined perforated drying floor with warm air ducted through the floor and the chips. The drying air is heated by a fuel fired heater (30) and is blown under the drying floor. The dried chips are dropped off the end of the screw feed into a ducting system to the burners. The wet chips are taken from a silo (50) over which the airflow is ducted.
