The weight compensation system (1) for a vertically- sliding window is installed a housing (4) in the windowsill. It has a coil spring (14) compressed by a nut (12) on a spindle (10) turned by pinions (6) engaging racks on sides of window panes. The spring is compressed as the window pane is lowered. There is a fixed bearing (18) at the end of the spring opposite the nut.
