The pipe (1) is rigid, and typically forms a wide shallow inverted U-shape. A valve (3) at the highest point of the pipe is used for sucking out air and starting the siphon action. Each end of the pipe dips into a vertical cylindrical vessel (2), with a closed bottom, a row of apertures around the periphery near the top, and a conical lid fitting closely onto the pipe. The end of the pipe is near the bottom of each vessel.
