The automatic cleaning device built into the air cooler consists of evaporator slats (4) which are sprayed clean by fluid from a bank of nozzles, the slats coated in dirt-repellent varnish to assist in their cleaning. A closable spray guard (2) shields the environment from cleaning fluid. The fluid also de-frosts the evaporator slats and spent fluids are led off by drip-pan. The housing can be accessed without tools to monitor its hygienic operation.
