Plastic material is fed (14) to a twin-screw extruder (11, 12) fitted with a mixing and kneading section (25). Further downstream is a side feed for hollow micro-spheres through another twin-screw extruder (36, 37) with a further mixing section (28). Finally there is a de-gassing section with a vacuum connection (52), the material being held back by a retaining extruder (45).
