The seat comprises a backrest (14), a seat (12) and a base frame (10), under the back of which a support plate is located. When upright the backrest is almost vertical, however when reclined it is not completely horizontal, thus remaining slightly tilted. The plate has a support arm (40) whose support surface lies under the rear foot (22) on the floor when in the reclined position. When upright, the arm remains completely within the reclining seat.
