The invention concerns an economical, simple and compact feeding device, providing high speed fast automatic assembling without human intervention and automatic loading and unloading of the reels. The paper feeding device (1) comprises two winding reels (2, 3) each bearing a paper roll (4, 5), whereof a first roll is operating and a second roll is on stand-by and means for automatically assembling (6) the end of the operating roll strip with the beginning of the stand-by roll strip. The invention is characterised in that the automatic assembly means (6) are arranged between the two reels (2, 3) and comprise two winding rolls (60, 61) mounted freely rotatable on at least one common plate (62) which is itself mounted rotatable about a fixed pin on a carriage (63) so as to set alternately said winding rolls (60, 61) in a first connecting position then in a second connecting position respectively corresponding to the working roll, the carriage being mobile in translation from one roll to the other. The invention is useful for feeding cardboard production lines, for example.
