A nitriding or carbonitriding furnace atmosphere regulating probe (1) comprises modules (10, 11, 12) for hydrogen measurement and ammonia cracking. Probe (1) for regulating the gas atmosphere in an atmospheric or low pressure nitriding or carbonitriding furnace comprises a connection module (3) for connecting the probe (1) to the furnace (2), a first hydrogen measuring module (10) for measuring residual hydrogen in sampled furnace gas, a cracking module (11) for cracking residual ammonia in sampled furnace gas, a second hydrogen measuring module (12) for measuring all the residual hydrogen, a flow regulating module (13) and a suction module (14) for sampling furnace gas.
