Probe (1) for regulating the gas atmosphere in an atmospheric or low pressure nitriding or carbonitriding furnace comprises a connection module (3) for connecting the probe (1) to the furnace (2), a first hydrogen measuring module (10) for measuring residual hydrogen in sampled furnace gas, a cracking module (11) for cracking residual ammonia in sampled furnace gas, a second hydrogen measuring module (12) for measuring all the residual hydrogen, a flow regulating module (13) and a suction module (14) for sampling furnace gas.
