A dome-shaped pressure vessel (36), contained in a pumping segment (10) for incorporation into a fluid delivery system, with an optimal shape for interfacing with a pressure sensing element (200), and which is capable of uniformly distributing pressure across its interfacing structure (130) and being optimally pre-loaded against the pressure sensing element. The pumping segment (10) includes a lateral restraint (150) to inhibit rupture of the unloaded pressure vessel (36) when experiencing high internal pressures.
