RIGGING FOR SAILING PROPULSION WITH TULL OR NEAR TULL TORQUE

The sailing craft rigging consists of a wing-shaped sail (1), offset to one side of the centre line and set at an angle. The sail is fastened by its leading edges or its ends to two supporting masts (2, 3) that allow the assembly to pivot through 360 degrees about its vertical axis. The sail is also able to rotate about the points (4, 5) at which it is fixed to the masts, exchanging its upper and lower surfaces. The sail, which can have a plain single skin or an inflated double skin, is controlled by sheets (6) and is used in conjunction with stabilisers (7).
