The boot or equivalent footwear (2) has a longitudinal straight surface at the inner side face of the sole which is graduated (1) using any of the normal methods. A short distance along the ground may be conveniently measured by taking consecutive heel to toe steps and counting them. The graduated feature is blended into the boot design such that it may be worn in daily use
