Fan has blades (1) and a mesh cover (3). Each blade has a filter layer containing activated charcoal. The mesh cover contains a smoke detector (4), a current breaker switch (6) and a conducting plate (7). The smoke detector starts the fan when there is excessive smoke in the ambient air. The conducting plate is connected to the current breaker switch so that the current can be switched off when the mesh cover is removed. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a fan blade having a passage in the blade, and a filter layer containing activated charcoal; and (2) a filter layer containing a base filtering material on which activated charcoal is formed.
