The ignition device for an internal combustion engine comprises: (a) a main combustion chamber (1) equipped with a compression system; (b) an ignitor (11) incorporating a precombustion chamber (2) and an ignition system (13, 14), the precombustion chamber being defined by a precombustion chamber body (12) having a head (12a) separating the two chambers and including some passages (15) connecting the chambers; and (c) a body of the precombustion chamber that is at least partially coated internally and/or the head is at least partially coated externally with a coating (R) of a refractory material. An Independent claim is also included for an ignitor for an internal combustion engine incorporating this ignition device.
