Pasteurization system for food products in containers with peel-off plastic film seals uses counter-pressure applied by second overhead conveyor

The Pasteurization process, in which products in containers (1) with plastic film seals (1a) pass through a chamber (3) in which they are heated by steam injectors (2) to a temperature of 70 - 98 degrees C at a pressure above atmospheric, incorporates a mechanical counter-pressure system to prevent the seals from lifting. The counter-pressure is provided by a second endless belt conveyor (4) applying a pressure on the containers and fitted with a height adjuster (8). A similar counter-pressure system is provided in a cooling chamber following Pasteurization. At least one of the conveyors is in the form of a mesh belt. A variant of the process incorporates a tempering zone before the Pasteurization chamber in which the products are pre-heated to 50 - 60 degrees C.
