The sludge remover (1) consists of a chamber (2) holding a volume of the circulated liquid, and an inner vertical cavity (12) of a non-magnetic material containing a sliding magnet (15) on a rod (16) that allows it to be raised and lowered from outside the chamber. The outer surface of the cavity has a disc-shaped collar (21), also of a non-magnetic material, to hold back any magnetic sludge when the magnet is raised inside the cavity to remove it. The chamber has an port (7) with a solenoid valve (8) for discharging the collected sludge, and its inlet (3) and outlet (4) have similar valves (5, 6). The magnet can be operated mechanically, e.g. by an electric power cylinder, and actuated automatically as part of a periodic maintenance cycle.
