Marking system using laser beam operates within light proof dual chamber casing offering protection against stray reflected light

A marking head (6) is mounted on the end of an arm (4) within two adjacent chambers (16,16) of a rectangular box. The box is light proof and includes individual doors (18,18) enabling the operator to gain access to the two chambers. With the doors closed, the operator is protected against laser light which may be reflected from surfaces adjacent to the marked target. The marking equipment includes a marking head (6) which is mounted on the end of an arm (4). The arm is supported on a fixed chassis (2) with provision to displace the arm in first and second perpendicular directions. The structure is mounted to work within two adjacent chambers (16,16) of a rectangular box. The box is light proof and includes individual doors (18,18) enabling the operator to gain access to the two chambers. Trapdoors (20,20) may be opened selectively to allow access to the chambers for the supported marking head. The arm and supported head may consequently penetrate into each of the two chambers alternately. Target objects (12) are supported within the chamber, with the head producing, for example, a beam of laser light (f) to mark their surfaces.
