Filling machine has series of dispensers with taps (12i) that automatically open when each empty bottle (16i) is presented and close when filled bottle is removed. Each dispenser is connected to outlet pipe (30i) having valve (50i) controlled so as to open when tap is open, and close after bottle has been filled with water. Outlet pipe allows air to escape from the bottle as it is filled with water. An Independent claim is also included for the method for filling up containers, e.g. bottles.
