System for detecting a very low speed in a motor vehicle is capable of discriminating between a very low speed and a zero speed. The system comprises a number of detectors associated with a number of the wheels of the vehicle concerned. Detector impulses, representative of the rotation of the vehicle wheels, are counted within a predetermined period and if at least one impulse is detected originating from one wheel, this is taken as an indication that the vehicle is travelling at a very low speed.
