Use of a liquid cross-linkable silicone formulation as a coating agent for the surface treatment of a wide range of textile materials to impart properties such as softness, hydrophilicity, hydrophobicity and oleophobicity. Use of a liquid cross-linkable silicone formulation as a coating base for textile materials which enables (a) cross-linking around the fibers and/or filaments of the material, ensuring a protective covering regardless of the nature of the material and with little or no anchorage points; (b) ensuring, by forming a cross-linked silicon sheath, a lasting protection of the textile and conferring resistance to aggressive media; (c) by imparting supplementary functionalities, enabling fabrication of clothing with properties such as softness, hydrophobicity, oleophobicity and anti-static properties; and (d) allowing deposition of the formulation and cross-linking at any point in the preparation and/or renovation and/or maintenance of the natural or synthetic material.
