The method involves placing a load in a support on an upper face of a piston that slides vertically in a cylinder (7). A liquid (F) contained in a chamber (C) is compressed by the piston, such that pressure inside the chamber increases to generate a force perpendicular to base of the load. The generated force is directly transmitted from the load to a surface on which the load is to be displaced. An independent claim is also included for a hydraulic plane bearing for displacement of heavy loads.
